FDA Food, Pet, and Drug Recall Update: July 2023

Here are the food, pet product, and drug/medical device recalls by the US Food & Drug Administration for July.

FDA recalls for July 2023

In the month of July there were 18 recalls announced by the FDA. This is the same number as June, and a decrease from May, which had 32 recalls.

Of these recalls, 15 were in food and beverage, 3 were in drugs/medical devices and 0 were in pet products. Recalls include:


Food & Beverage

A whopping 13 of the 18 recalls were due to mislabeling for an undeclared allergen. The products recalled were:

  • Member’s Mark Breaded Mozzarella Sticks – undeclared egg and soy

  • Ono Vegan Blueberry Muffin Protein Overnight Oats – undeclared milk

  • Tim Heung Yuen Black Melon seed – undeclared soy and wheat

  • Cava Spicy Hummus 8 oz. tub – undeclared sesame

  • Outshine No Sugar Added Strawberry Fruit Bars – undeclared milk

  • Heinen’s Fresh Ground Cashew Butter – undeclared peanut and almond

  • 365 by Whole Foods Market Organic Asian Inspired Chopped Salad Kit 12 oz. – undeclared milk and egg

  • Betty Lou’s Paleo Java Nuts About Energy Balls with Cacao, Coffee & Pumpkin Seeds – undeclared sesame

  • Ziyad Jameed Soup Starter – undeclared milk

  • Spring Valley Potato Blintzes – undeclared milk

  • Fry Daddy Party Mix – undeclared walnuts

  • belVita Breakfast Sandwich Products – undeclared peanuts

  • Van’s Gluten Free Original Waffles – undeclared wheat       

2 others were recalled due to possible Listeria contamination:

  • Cooperstown Cheese Company cheese products – Potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. A total of 1,400 lb of cheese was recalled with sold/distributed dates from 6/21/23 to 7/10/23. Products were distributed in New York State and reached customers through farmers markets, restaurants, and retail stores. 

  • Fromager Ottavi Tome De Brebis Sheep Milk Cheese – Potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. It is one lot, #VC349, 2 x 3.5kg with used by date of 8/5/23.


Drug/Medical Devices

  • SIGMA Spectrum and Spectrum IQ Infusion pumps – An increase in reported false upstream occlusion alarms following the software upgrades

  • Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc. Tydemy oral contraceptive – Being out of specification results at the 12-month stability time point

  • Cipla Albuterol Sulfate Inhalation Aerosol, 90 mcg (200 Metered Inhalation) – Failure to deliver the recommended dose
