FDA Food/Beverage, Pet, & Drug Recall Update: November 2023

Here are the food & beverage, pet product, and drug/medical device recalls by the US Food and Drug Administration for November.

There were 37 recalls from the US Food & Drug Association for the month of November covering food & beverage, pet products, and drugs & medical devices, and one retraction. This is more than the last six months, with October at 27, September at 21, August at 19, July at 18, June at 18, and May at 32.

Of the recalled products, 22 were in the food and beverage sector with one retraction, 2 in pet food, and 13 in drugs/medical devices.

Food and Beverage

Of the 22 recalls in this sector, 9 were due to undeclared allergens and one was a retraction.

  • Hearn Kirkwood Croissant Sandwiches – undeclared soy and milk

  • Off the Eaten Path Chickpea Veggie Crisps – undeclared milk

  • Publix Supermarkets Egg Custard Pie – undeclared coconut

  • Eltahan Golden Raisins – undeclared sulphites

  • Raw Seafoods Farm Raised Lightly Seasoned Atlantic Salmon Burgers – undeclared sesame and milk

  • Hy-Vee Turkey Gravy – undeclared soy

  • Acorn Baking Company Raspberry Crème Filled Cookies – undeclared hazelnuts

  • Gaws Deli Sub and Breakfast Bagel Sandwiches – undeclared sesame

  • Sienna Bakery Chocolate Decadent Brownies – undeclared peanut

Correction: Grandy Organics Gluten Free Honey Oat Granola, previously recalled due to undeclared coconut, was retracted. The recall was due to faulty testing and faulty results. Therefore, Grandy Organics Honey Oat Granola is deemed safe for consumption.

7 were due to potential Salmonella contamination:

  • Trufresh Malichita and Rudy Fresh Cantaloupe

  • Vinyard Fruit & Vegetable Co. Cantaloupe Chunks and Cubes, and Fruit Mixes and Medleys containing Cantaloupe

  • Created Fresh, Jack & Olive Fruit Cups containing Cantaloupe

  • Sprouts Farmers Market, Trader Joe’s, None Fruit Cups and Trays containing Cantaloupe

  • Crown Jewel Produce Malichita and Z Farms Cantaloupes

  • CF Dallas Freshness Guaranteed, RaceTrac Cantaloupe Chunks, Fruit Medley and Fruit Mix, Seasonal Fruit Tray, Fruit Bowl, Fruit Blend, Melon Mix, Melon Trio, Seasonal Blend

  • Kwik Trip Fruit Cups and Trays containing Cantaloupe

3 were due to potential Listeria contamination:

  • HMC Farms, Signature Farms Whole Peaches, Plums, and Nectarines.

  • Wilcox Ice Cream, Leonardos Ice Cream, Yogurt, Ice Cream Bars, and Gelato in a Variety of Flavors

  • Hilltop Meadow Farm Pepper Jack Raw Milk Cheese

1 product was recalled due to the potential of foreign matter inclusion:

  • Burn Boot Camp Triple Chocolate Almond Flavored Whey Protein Bars can include disposable hairnet, shrink wrap, and parchment paper.

1 product was recalled due to elevated levels of lead:

  • Wanabana, Schnucks, Weis Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree/Cinnamon Apple Sauce (updated recall from October)

Pet Products

There were 2 recalls in pet food in November, and both were due to potential Salmonella contamination:

  • TFP Nutrition dry dog food, dry cat food, and catfish food. Brands include Star Pro, Country Acres, Lone Star, Hill Country Fare, H-E-B Texas Pets, Member’s Mark, Red Flannel, Exclusive Signature, Retriever, EconoMax, Multi-Cat, PMI Nutrition, and Paws & Claws.

  • Mid America Pet Food multiple brands of dog and cat food. Brands include Victor, Eagle Mountain, Wayne Feeds, and Member’s Mark.

Drug/Medical Devices

There were 13 recalls in the drug/medical device category, with 2 being recalled due to insanitary manufacturing conditions:

  • Rugby OTC Ophthalmic Sterile Drops

  • LEADER OTC Ophthalmic Sterile Drops

1 was recalled due to lack of sterility assurance:

  • Nurse Assist, Stericare, Cardinal, Halyard Owens Minor, Idexx, Mac Medical, McKesson, MediChoice Owens Minor, Medline, Sol, Trudell and Vyaire 0.9% Sodium Chloride Irrigation USP and Sterile Water for Irrigation USP

4 were recalled due to an undeclared drug:

  • Kuka Flex, Artri King, Reumo Flex Dietary Supplements with undeclared Diclofenac

  • Dr. Ergin’s SugarMD Advanced Glucose Support, Dietary Supplement with undeclared Glyburide and Metformin

  • Noah’s Wholesale LLC Dietary Supplement with undeclared Sildenafil

  • Magnum Male Sexual Enhancement XXL 9800 capsule with undeclared Sildenafil

1 product was recalled due to crystallization formation:

  • Novartis Sandimmune (cyclosporine oral solution, USP) Oral Solution 100 mg/mL

1 product was recalled due to the presence of Benzene:

  • Ting 2% Miconazole Nitrate Athlete’s Foot Spray Antifungal SprayPowder

1 drug was recalled due to microbial contamination identified as Penicillium brevicompactum

  • Bayer Vitrakvi (larotrectinib) Oral Solution 20 mg/mL in 100mL glass bottles

1 product recall was due to Acetaminophen instability

  • KinderMed OTC Pain and Fever Reliever for Infants and Kids

1 recall was for device & drug safety potential safety concerns

  • Rugby, Target, Rite Aid, Leader, Velocity, CVS, Walmart Lubricant Eye Drops & Multi-Symptom Eye Drops

1 medical device was recalled due to the potential for an incomplete infusion following one or more downstream occlusion alarms.

  • Baxter Novum IQ syringe infusion pump
