Drying Equipment Fire Breaks Out at Purina Mills Plant
Flames ignited in the dryer and spread into a ventilation system in the Richmond, IN animal feed plant.
Firefighters were called to the Purina Mills animal feed plant in Richmond, IN on Tuesday after a piece of drying equipment caught on fire, several local news organizations reported.
Crews responded to the Fourth Street site after receiving word of the blaze at 2 p.m. and remained on scene through 6 p.m., coverage by the Richmond Palladium-Item said. Local police temporarily halted traffic on a local roadway during the incident.
Worker in the facility managed to put out the fire in the dryer, but firefighters worked for several hours to douse flames that had spread to a ventilation system, Richmond Fire Battalion Chief Tim Brown told radio station WQLK.
Purina Mills is owned by Land O’ Lakes Inc.
