American agribusiness Bunge is planning to shed seven of its wheat mills in Mexico to Grupo Trimex, a company release revealed this month.

“Bunge is most effective when we operate our value chains end-to-end, collaborating closely with our farmers and customers. The wheat milling business in Mexico is not fully integrated in a way that is critical to successfully serving our customers in line with our long-term sustainable and strategic goals,” the St. Louis-based company’s chief executive officer, Greg Heckman, said in a statement. “We believe selling the business to a well-respected wheat miller will provide a great opportunity for our employees as well as our customers.”

The company intends to retain its corn milling operation in Queretaro and continue to serve oil and meal customers in the country.

Completion of the sale is spending regulatory approval and customary closing conditions.
