On Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 2 p.m. Eastern/11 a.m. Pacific, Dr. Ashok Ghose Dastidar, vice president, dust & flammability testing and consulting services, Fauske & Associates LLC, will present Sampling Plan for Combustible Dust Testing to Support a Dust Hazards Analysis as part of Powder & Bulk Solids' DryPro webinar series.

Dust Hazards Analysis (DHA) are required by the NFPA and many local fire codes for any industrial operation that handles or generates combustible dusts. The DHA is a systematic review of your process by a qualified person to assess the risks to your facility and plant personnel posed by combustible dust explosions and fires. For this type of analysis to be effective in minimizing the risk of a combustible dust hazard the combustion and explosion properties of the dust in question must be known. The test methods to ascertain these combustion and explosion properties are well known and have been presented here last year. The second key factor that should be addressed is “the dust in question.” Dust combustibility is not like gas/vapor combustibility; it is heavily dependent on particle size distribution and morphology. This presentation will discuss several factors that should be considered when establishing a dust sampling plan for submitting material to a lab for analysis. Additionally, it will cover strategies that can be used to target testing specifically for credible accident scenarios.

Dr. Dastidar specializes in chemical process hazards analysis, flammable dusts, liquids & vapors explosion and combustion hazards analysis and testing and electrostatic hazards analysis. He has extensive technical experience performing tests and analyzing data to determine electrostatic hazards, dust explosibility hazards, flammability hazards, thermal stability and reactivity hazards, and hazard analysis and risk mitigation. Dr. Dastidar has published 12 articles and presented at more than 23 conferences. He has a Ph.D., Chemical Engineering, Dalhousie University, an M.A.Sc., Chemical Engineering, Technical University of Nova Scotia, M.B.A, Management Science, Saint Mary's University, and a B.S., Honors in Chemistry from Dalhousie University.
