APEC and West Michigan Powder Coating Join Forces
November 24, 2009
APEC has announced that it has merged with West Michigan Powder Coating to form a new division of APEC. The new division retains the name of West Michigan Powder Coating and has moved operations to APEC’s facility in Lake Odessa, MI. Fully operational, it provides powder coat finishes to APEC products, as well as servicing other companies that require high-quality durable powder coat finishing.
The partnership came about because APEC had been using a water-based spray paint system and began searching for a more efficient and effective way to achieve a high-quality finish, while allowing the company to achieve its goal of minimizing its impact on the environment. As a vendor to APEC and other companies in the area, West Michigan Powder Coating had proven its commitment to high-quality work and customer service. This resulted in growth that exceeded the existing facility. A partnership was formed based on WMPC’s need for more space and the two companies’ desire to expand and upgrade the capabilities of the powder coating operation. The new facilities are equipped with a 40 x 15 x 10-ft-high inside oven and a smaller oven 10 x 8 X 9 ft-high inside oven dimension. Spray booths are set up to accommodate both ovens depending on the part requirement. Along with the painting services, the company also offers sandblasting and hot water pressure cleaning high quality surface preparation.
“I appreciate the opportunity for growth that this merger gives West Michigan Powder Coating,” said West Michigan Powder Coating owner, Lamar Schrock. “I feel I am joining a team that has customer quality as its focus. Powder coating enables us to apply a high-quality, protective, and decorative coating on metals in an economical and technically advantageous way. An added benefit to powder coatings is that they contain no solvents and therefore do not harm the environment.”
Kendall Wilcox, APEC company president, added, “We are very excited to have Lamar join the APEC team and look forward to a new level of finish to our products. Lamar’s attention to customer service and quality align perfectly with our corporate culture.”
The new division allows APEC to offer products with a much more durable and attractive finish. It also allows the company to provide expanded powder coating services to companies throughout the area.
Since 1992, APEC has specialized in the design and manufacturing of automation systems for dry ingredients. The company’s equipment and control systems can precisely measure from grams to tons and from pounds to tons per hour. As the manufacturer of both the equipment and control systems, APEC offers comprehensive solutions to meet all their customers’ process needs. In-house designers address entire programs and assemble complete systems from APEC’s large product line, or if needed they can customize a solution for a processing challenge.
