Hosted by Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems, the Fall Milling & Material Handling Expo drew a capacity crowd for its presentations from the host company, as well as its partners Coperion K-Tron and Sly Inc.
Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems marketing manager Greg Boyer greeted the audience and provided a brief introduction of the day’s agenda.
Rob Vorhees, president of Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems, kicked off the educational portion of the day with a presentation on the Mikro Pulverizer hammer and screen mill, emphasizing its high speed and principle of impact.
Suha Ozsoylu, pharmaceutical and food division manager at Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems, then spoke about the Mikro UMP universal milling system, describing it as a “modernized Mikro Pulverizer.” The UMP features improved dust containment, flexibility, cleanability, and ease of access.
After a short break, Bill Brown, chemical and mineral division manager, Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems, spoke about the Mikro ACM air classifying mill, which is a mechanical impact mill that uses a forced vortex air classifier instead of screens.
Doug Ort, general manager, Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems was next to present, discussing the company’s granulators and dedusting systems. Ort presented a general overview and discussed theory of operation.
After lunch, Sharon Nowak, global business development manager, Coperion K-Tron, discussed feeders and pneumatic conveying equipment. Nowak provided information on volumetric and gravimetric feeding equipment, as well as pneumatic conveying and material handling systems and components, as well as the benefits of automating processes with pneumatic conveying and feeding.
Wendy Nora, regional sales manager, Sly Inc., continued the day’s discussion by speaking about pulse-jet dust collectors for milling applications, how a dust collector is an integral part of a complete milling system, and the advantages pulse-jet provides – including flexibility of design.
The final presentation of the day was delivered by Timothy Calvo, laboratory equipment product manager, Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems, on particle size analysis. Calvo detailed the Mikro Air Jet Sieve, stressing the four critical factors for particle size analysis: sample size, sieving time, vacuum pressure, and cleanliness/integrity of the sieve screen.
