German chemicals firm BASF announced plans Thursday to invest in a new production line that will increase capacity at its Mauldin, SC cosmetics ingredients plant.

The new line will allow the company to boost production of pealizers and opacifers – used to create luster in cosmetics – for use by customers in North America. Specialty blends for personal care products will also be manufactured on the new asset.

“With shortened cycles for product launches and changing demands due to the rise of e-commerce, our customers need a fast and flexible supply of personal care ingredients,” Danielle Piergentili, vice president at BASF Home & Personal Care, North America, said in a company press release heralding the plan. “The investment in our Mauldin site will improve the supply performance of our Personal Care Solutions portfolio.”

The new production line is slated to become operational by the end of this year.

BASF refers to itself as “the leading supplier globally” for the personal care, hygiene, and home care industries.
