Solvay Wraps Up Work on New Thermoplastic Composites Plant

Materials and chemicals producer Solvay announced Thursday that installation work was completed at its new 27,000-sq-ft thermoplastic composites (TPC) manufacturing plant at its existing location in Greenville, SC.

“The TPC solutions that will be manufactured in our Greenville facility will help our energy, aerospace, and automotive customers achieve better environmental responsibility by making cars and planes lighter, thereby reducing emissions,” Mike Finelli, president of growth platforms for Solvay, said in a company release. “Our new capacity and differentiated technologies will allow us to expand with our customers as TPCs gain momentum in a greater number of applications and play an important role in the energy transition.”

Rising demand for TPC from energy companies, as well as the aerospace and automotive industries, fueled the company’s decision to expand in South Carolina. Assets installed in the new facility enable Solvay to produce unidirectional tape using a number of polymers, like PVDF, PPS, and PEEK. Solvay’s TPC portfolio includes the Evolite and APC brands.

Over 30 new jobs will be created with the opening of the new site.

Solvay businesses Solvay Specialty Polymers USA LLC and Cytec Engineered Materials Inc. also operate facilities in Greenville.
