Resin Production Up Year Over Year

US production of major plastic resins totaled 8.1 billion pounds during November 2023, a decrease of 0.9% compared to the prior month, and an increase of 12.2% compared to the same month in 2022, according the American Chemistry Council’s Plastics Industry Producers’ Statistics Group. Year-to-date production was 88.2 billion pounds, a 3.4% increase as compared to the same period in 2022.

Sales and captive (internal) use of major plastic resins totaled 7.8 billion pounds in November 2023, a decrease of 4.6% compared to the prior month, and an increase of 4.3% from the same month one year earlier. Year-to-date sales and captive use were 87.2 billion pounds, a 2.4% increase as compared to the same period in 2022.
