Paints, coatings, and materials firm PPG Industries announced Monday that it entered into an agreement to purchase Arsonsisi’s powder coatings business for an undisclosed sum.

Under the terms of the deal, PPG will acquire the business’ portfolio of powder coatings, including metallic bonding powders, and a highly automated powder manufacturing plant in Verbania, Italy capable of producing small and large batch sizes.

“Already recognized as an innovator in powder coatings, PPG has demonstrated leadership through powder advancements, including edge coverage and fluoroethylene vinyl ether (FEVE) fluoropolymer coatings for architectural metals,” Michael Shukov, general manager, industrial coatings, Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region for PPG, said in a release. He added, “We are pleased that the addition of this business will offer our EMEA customers expanded powder coatings options to meet increasing demand for these sustainably advantaged coatings.”

Used in automotive, industrial, and appliance applications, metallic bonding powders are one of the fastest growing categories of powder coating products. In 2021, Arsonsini’s powder coatings business generated sales of $15 million. PPG said the transaction will expand its powder coatings offering in the EMEA region.

“We are proud that PPG has chosen to invest in the field of powder coating by acquiring Arsonsisi’s powder coatings division,” said Arsonsisi S.p.A. chairman Carlo Junghanns in a statement. “We have confidence in PPG’s commitment to carry on our legacy, and in their ability to continue to supply our loyal customers with the high-performance powder coatings they require.”

The sale is expected to close in the first quarter of 2022.

PPG closed its acquisition of industrial and automotive coatings manufacturer Wörwag in May 2021. The Stuttgart, Germany-based company produces sustainable liquid, powder, and film coatings and has facilities in Germany, the US, China, South Africa, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland and Poland.
