National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) president and CEO Eric R. Byer issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate unanimously voted to confirm the nomination of Stephen A. Owens to be the chairman of the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB):
“The Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board plays a critical role in protecting the chemical industry, its workers, and the communities it serves. As a current board member of the CSB, Mr. Owens is acutely aware of the challenges facing our industry and he brings extensive experience to the chairmanship.
“A safe chemical industry is the product of a strong board, and Mr. Owens’ work to increase transparency, reduce investigative backlogs, and enhance collaboration among other agencies will only make our sector stronger in the years to come. NACD applauds Mr. Owens for his willingness to serve in this critical role and commends the U.S. Senate for its swift consideration of this important leadership position.”
The NACD and its more than 400 member and affiliate companies are vital to the chemical supply chain, providing products to more than 750,000 end users. NACD members are leaders in health, safety, security, and environmental performance through implementation of Responsible Distribution, established in 1991 as a condition of membership and a third party-verified management practice.
