Dow Expanding Capacity to Support Mobility and Transport Market

The company said it intends to carry out key growth capital projects this year at several facilities in its network.

American chemicals and materials firm Dow announced plans this week to invest in key growth capital projects that will strengthen the firm’s position in the mobility and transportation markets.

New capabilities for the development of moldable optical silicone technologies used in automotive and industrial lighting applications will be added to firm’s Jincheon plant in South Korea. Dow is also injecting funds into its plants in Midland, MI and Songjiang and Zhangjiagang in China.

“The mobility and transportation market is undergoing its biggest evolution in more than 100 years, and we’re proud to play a role in driving the industry forward through our materials science expertise,” Jeroen Bello, global marketing director for mobility and transportation for Dow Consumer Solutions, said in a release. “In order to properly support our customers and the industry as a whole, it’s imperative that we have the capacity to do so. Our latest investments, which build on our existing infrastructure serving this market, reaffirm our commitment to delivering market-driven and sustainable solutions.”

In 2021, the company added a gum mixer to the Midland plant in increase its fluorosilicone rubber production capabilities and added a new liquid silicone rubber mixer at its Zhangjiagang facility. Two new mixers for thermally conductive technologies were installed at Dow’s Songjiang site. A new mixer for thermally conductive technologies recently came online at the firm’s Wiesbaden, Germany facility.
