WestRock Blueprints $47M Packaging Plant Expansion

Paper and packaging products maker WestRock Co. is preparing to launch a $47 million project to expand the size of its Consumer Packaging manufacturing plant in Claremont, NC, according to a recent release issued by the office of North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper. 50 new jobs will be added to the facility’s headcount when work reaches completion.

“WestRock is proud to be a part of the Claremont community, and we look forward [to] growing our team in the area,” said Patrick Kivits, president of WestRock Consumer Packaging, in a statement. “This facility is an important part of WestRock’s production of sustainable, fiber-based packaging, and we are pleased to make this investment in Catawba County.”

285,000 sq ft of space will be added to the facility’s current footprint during the expansion. The plant produces beverage, food and foodservice packaging products for major brands.

The One North Carolina Fund is providing $125,000 to support the project.

“WestRock has been an outstanding corporate citizen to Catawba County for 25 years,” N.C. Senator Dean Proctor said in the release. “We appreciate the work of the outstanding economic development leaders, local and state officials that helped the company increase their investment in our community.”
