Frozen desserts company The Original Cakerie recently shared plans to expand capacity at its London, ON production facility with the addition of several new production lines and a new building. Construction will begin on the project later this year, according to a company press release. Work on the site is expected to be completed by the fall of 2020.

“In the last four years, we have experienced sizable growth as demand for our premium, innovative products remains strong with our existing customers and we continue to add new customers as well,” said Paul Lapadat, chief executive officer of Dessert Holdings, the parent company of The Original Cakerie, in a statement. “We have made significant investments over the last three years, which have allowed us to meet the demand, and this additional capacity will enable us to continue doing so in a category that is expected to maintain strong growth.”

In operation for more than four decades, The Original Cakerie produces over 350 types of frozen dessert products – from layer cakes to brownies – for foodservice and retail customers in North Amerca. The company also operates another manufacturing plant in Delta, BC.

“Grocery stores and restaurant goers are increasingly indulging in high-quality, great tasting treats, and we are thoughtfully growing our business to satisfy the tastes and lifestyles of our customers,” Boris Bitz, president of retail sales at Dessert Holdings, said in the release.

Earlier this year, Powder & Bulk Solids reported that Kroger sold its Turkey Hill business, including frozen desserts, to private equity firm Peak Rock Capital. The deal also included a Turkey Hill processing plant in Conestoga, NY.
