Swiss firm LafargeHolcim is expanding its foothold in the U.S. building materials market with the acquisition of Colorado-based Transit Mix Concrete Co., a company press release announced Monday.

A subsidiary of Continental Materials Corporation, Transit Mix is a supplier of ready-mix concrete and aggregates in southern Colorado. Under the terms of the deal, LafargeHolcim will take on seven ready-mix concrete plants and a sand quarry.

The company also announced the purchase of Alfons Greten Betonwerk’s precast and ready-mix concrete business in northern Germany, including a precast facility and ready-mix concrete plant in Lower Saxony.

“In line with our Strategy 2022 – ‘Building for Growth’, these acqusitions will generate synergies with LafargeHolcim’s existing operations. With these further bolt-on acquisitions we are delivering on our commitment to accelerate growth in the Ready-Mix Concrete and Aggregates segments. I am pleased to welcome all new employees to LafargeHolcim,” the Swiss firm’s chief executive officer, Jan Jenisch, said in a statement.

Gerten employs about 100 workers and Transit Mix has over 180 staff.
