Teijin Group-owned composite vehicle components manufacturer Continental Structural Plastics (CSP) started construction work this Tuesday on a new $70 million manufacturing plant in Seguin, TX, the company announced in a release.

Slated to become operational by 2021, the 200,000-sq-ft facility will be the 25thcomposites production plant operated by Teijin across its global footprint.

“We continue to see growth opportunities for our advanced composite and multi-material components globally, so we’re making sure we have the manufacturing capabilities necessary to meet our customers’ needs,” Steve Rooney, chief executive officer of CSP, said in a statement. “We are truly grateful to the state of Texas, the city of Seguin, and Guadalupe County for the support we’ve received in initiating this project, and we look forward to being an active member of the Seguin community.”

Some 200 positions are expected to be created when the site opens in areas like production, engineering, and administration. The company said it selected Seguin as the location for its new plant because it is located near the company’s customers and potential customers in Texas and the region, incentives and abatements related to the site, and the presence of skilled workers in the area.

Teijin Group is based in Tokyo and has more than 170 companies that focus on areas like carbon fibers and composites, healthcare, resin and plastic processing, and polyester fibers.
