Construction and construction materials firm Granite announced the opening of its new aggregate and asphalt plant in California on Wednesday. The introduction of the Big Rock Aggregate and Asphalt Plant in Llano will enable the company to provide products to public and private customers in several southern California counties.

“Granite’s investment in our construction materials business demonstrates a commitment to aggregate and asphalt production in key markets across our vertically-integrated footprint. We expect Big Rock to fill a need for high-quality construction materials in the northern LA market for many years to come,” Brad Estes, vice president of construction and materials for Granite, said in a release.

Technology was installed in the Llano facility that provides the company with the capability to produce 11 types of high-quality aggregate materials at the same time and allows it to shift production to meet market demands.  Dewatering screens, low-water washers, and water clarifiers in the aggregate plant will help Granite recycle 130,000 gal/hr of water.

Granite’s new asphalt plant uses reclaimed asphalt pavement and warm-mix asphalt, conserving raw materials and lowering the site’s energy use.

The Big Rock plant is the 76th materials facility opened by Granite.
