Provider of ingredients for export, food, and pet food industries Anchor Ingredients Co. LLC broke ground on a new pea protein factionation facility in Buffalo, ND, positioning the company to advance its position in the pulse ingredient market, the Fargo, ND-based company announced Monday.

Located near farms growing peas and the firm’s end users, Anchor said the facility will produce dry milled pea protein and pea starch using up-to-date production technology when it is officially opened in late 2017.

“The plant will add additional pulse ingredients to Anchor’s growing portfolio of super premium ingredients. With Anchor’s diverse sales and marketing expertise, the company will be positioned to offer its ingredients globally to both the food and pet food markets,” the firm said in a press release.

Anchor said the move is in response to growing global demand for plant-based proteins, particularly pea protein. The firm will continue its relationship with European pea protein concentrate supplier Vestkorn Milling to offer its customers both imported and domestically-produced pea protein.
