Two Workers Injured in Georgia Chemical Plant Explosion

A worker was left with third degree burns covering 90% of their body after an explosion at a chemical production facility Tuesday in Orchard Hill, GA, local media reports said. Another person was also injured during the incident. 

First responders were called to the facility after the explosion occurred at the ARI plant at about 4:25 p.m., Griffin, GA-based news organization The Grip Press reported. ARI is a manufacturer of aerosol products used for insect control and other purposes. 

Officials told television news station WXIA that acetone may have been involved in the incident and that the explosion occurred in an area of the plant used for mixing. A report by the Barnesville Herald-Gazettesaid the blast was sparked by lightning during a storm. 

Other workers at the ARI facility were evacuated when firefighters arrived, WXIA reported. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
