River Valley Coop Enters Agreement to Buy Michlig Grain

Davenport, IA-based River Valley Cooperative has entered into an agreement to purchase the assets of Michlig Grain Holdings LLC, the company announced in a recent release. The company manages seven commercial grain elevators in Illinois. 

Michlig Grain has 30 employees and operates in Deer Grove, Manlius, Bradford, Sheffield, Cambridge, Mineral, and Broadmoor. The company has been in operation for four decades. 

“We look forward to working alongside Michlig Grain employees within the combined organization and continuing our mutual commitment to excellent customer service,” Tim Burress, chief executive officer of River Valley Cooperative, said in the March 19 release. “Having the avility to bring together two dedicated employee teams, shared culture and values, along with financial stability is a tremendous opportunity. This partnership, along with our recent agronomy facility expansions in the area, further enhances our commitment to serving customers in the Illinois trade area.”

River Valley Cooperative offers grain, feed, energy, and agronomy products and services and employs 300 workers across 30 sites. Owned by more than 2,800 farmer families in eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, the firm generates over $500 million in annual sales. 

“The culture and values of River Valley Cooperative are consistent with what Michlig Grain has developed over its 40-year history, and I am excited to know that our customers will continue to get the same great service their loyalty deserves,” the owner of Michlig Grain, Don King, said, in a statement. 

The companies expect the transaction to reach completion this May.
