DuPont to Open its Largest Compounding Plant

DuPont Performance Materials will open a new compounding plant in Shenzhen by the end of June, according to a Plastics News report Monday. The plant will be the largest DuPont compounding plant in the world.

The new facility will feature compounding lines that produce DuPont polymers and elastomers like Zytel, Bynel adhesives, Delrin acetal and other products

“In the new facility we will use new extruder machinery that will bring all kinds of benefits to us and improvements to our manufacturing,” said Philippe Hanck, DuPont’s Asia-Pacific business director, at a news conference in Shanghai, according to the report.

While overall economic growth in China has been slowing, Hanck said the country’s financial ebbs are not having a major impact on the DuPont products that will be produced at the new plant.

“Our growth is not necessar[ily] linked to the growth rate of the industry. There is more and more high-quality packaging in China. So even though the total packaging [may be affected], the kind of packaging we do has [a] very high growth rate,” Hanck said.

Some of the production at the Shenzhen plant will supply customers in Germany, Japan, and the United States, said Hanck, and a large amount will supply Chinese customers.
