Martin Engineering South Africa Completes Move to New Facility

Martin Engineering South Africa (formerly Scorpio Conveyor Products) has relocated to a new facility in its hometown of Witbank, Mpumalanga, Republic of South Africa.

Following completion in late December of move-in chores, all of the activities of Martin Engineering South Africa are now located in the new building at Cnr Antwerpen and Arnhemsingel Die Heuwel, Witbank. Mpumalanga. Located in an industrial park approximately 4.5 miles from the previous location, the new 40,000-sq-ft facility has doubled the size of the operation’s previous facility.

At the same time as the relocation, the firm officially changed its name to Martin Engineering South Africa. Founded as Scorpio Engineering (Pty) Ltd in 1979, the operation was acquired in 2003 by Martin Engineering, the Neponset, IL-based supplier of systems and services to improve bulk materials handling.

The new Witbank facility includes expanded workshop areas that will allow the operation to be more efficient in its manufacturing, utilizing Martin Engineering’s "lean" production methodology. The new workspace has also allowed inventory levels to be refined, allowing fast-moving products to be readily available and goods sourced outside the company to be expedited more efficiently, improving service to customers.

"Martin Engineering is expanding around the globe, and we look forward to being part of that growth," said Hannes Kotze, Managing Director of Martin Engineering South Africa. This new building shows Martin Engineering is seriously committed to doing business in South Africa."
