The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, along with the U.S. Department of Commerce, will host a free webinar on solid biofuels and related standards, September 11, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. (EST).
As the demand for alternative fuel sources grows, U.S. companies are finding market opportunities in providing sustainable energy for the future. One of these “green-collar” industries is solid biofuels derived from biomass, commonly comprising agricultural or wood waste. To advance the industry worldwide, work is being done in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to create international standards for solid biofuels. Covered in this work are biofuels from the agriculture and forestry industries, including vegetable waste, wood waste, and cork waste.
Presenters for the event include: Scott Cedarquist, ASABE director of standards; Richard Straub, University of Wisconsin; Lars Sjöberg, International Secretariat, ISO TC 238; Jason Knopes, program manager, American National Standards Institute. The Pellet Fuel Institute, the Biomass Thermal Energy Council, and ASTM International will also provide presentations.
The 90-minute webinar will address fundamental questions about standards for solid biofuels: Why does the industry need standards? What is the status of work being done within ISO and elsewhere? How does one get involved in standards development?
