ACC Details Product Stewardship Summaries for Over 1000 Chemicals

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) understands the concerns many consumers have about the amount and type of public information available on chemical products. In response, the chemistry industry has moved beyond government requirements and through the Global Product Strategy and the Responsible Care initiative has created a new Web site that details Product Stewardship Summaries for more than 1000 chemicals in commerce.

The Product Stewardship Summaries are essential in providing business partners and consumers with user-friendly guides that detail safe handling and management of chemical products. Visitors to the site can easily search links by chemical name or by manufacturer to gain access to the summaries.

Speaking at the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management conference in Geneva, Switzerland, ACC president and CEO, Cal Dooley said, “By enhancing our efforts to become more transparent in our communication with the public, ACC members are taking an extra step to help restore public confidence in chemicals management and the essential products made through chemistry.”

Responsible Care is a global industry performance initiative that helps American chemistry companies go above and beyond government requirements and openly communicate their results to the public. Responsible Care companies use a modern management system to drive environmental, health, safety, and security performance. A key component of this management system is mandatory certification by independent, accredited auditing firms and progress is made publicly available.

Launched by the International Council of Chemical Associations, the Global Product Strategy is designed to advance the industry’s product stewardship performance, measure that performance, and improve communication and transparency about chemical hazards, risks, and appropriate safe handling along the value chain. It aims to develop tools to address public concerns regarding chemicals in commerce. The Global Product Strategy works hand-in-hand with the Responsible Care initiative in the improvement of product stewardship throughout the supply chain.
