One person died in a boiler explosion at Oak Grove Power Plant in Southeast Texas Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The incident occurred at 8 a.m. during the commissioning of a new auxiliary boiler.  The on-site team immediately calling 911 and implemented emergency response protocols, according to local news sources.

Robertson County first responders went to the coal plant in Franklin after initial reports of an explosion with multiple injuries, according to the Robertson County Emergency Management.

Upon arrival, crews saw that an explosion from a boiler occurred. The contractor later died from their injuries, according to Oak Grove's parent company, Luminant.

“Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the families of those impacted by this unfortunate event, and we would like to thank the local first responders for their quick response and efforts to render aid,” said an Oak Grove Power Plant spokesperson.

All other employees and contractors have been accounted for, and there are no other known injuries at this time.

Oak Grove remains in operation and is generating electricity.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

In February, another incident happened where four workers were sent to the hospital due to possible exposure to a hazardous chemical.

An investigation is ongoing to determine what chemical the workers were exposed to and how it happened but there is no threat to the public, according to Robertson County Emergency Management.
