Three people were injured after an incident at Crostwater Distilled Spirits, a distillery in Lewisberry, PA on Friday, March 17, ABC27 local news reported.
Ted Czech with the York County Office of Emergency Management said the call originally came in as an explosion around 10:16 a.m.
He also said that York County HAZMAT team and fire crews responded to the scene. There was no actual fire, but the building was evacuated.
Local news reported that an equipment malfunction caused an unexpected pressurized release of a non-toxic, non-hazardous solution, according to a distillery spokesperson.
York County officials say there was a liquid substance inside the building, which is a 75% vinegar acidic base material, released and contained inside the building that had caused the smoke. There was no explosion or fire.
Three people suffered moderate injuries and were taken to the hospital.
There is no risk to the public, stated Brandon Freistat, Emergency Management coordinator for Fairview Township and Northern York County. However, air quality is being monitored inside and outside as a precaution.
He said the chemical had been diluted and fans were being used to vent the building.
