Explosion, Fire Reported at Federated Co-op Feed Plant

The company issued a statement acknowledging the “safety incident” at its Calgary feed facility on Wednesday.

Emergency personnel were called to the Federated Co-operatives Limited feed plant in Calgary, AB this Wednesday after an explosion and fire reportedly occurred at the facility, according to a report by 660 News.

Crews responded to the site after receiving word of the incident at about 4 p.m. and arrived on scene to find all workers had evacuated the plant without injury, an official told the local news radio station. A firefighter was said to have received minor injuries while battling the blaze.

“FCL has become aware of a safety incident at its Co-op Feed Plant in Calgary. We’ve confirmed all employees that were on site have been safely evacuated,” the company said in a statement posted to its website. “Emergency services were immediately contacted and responded to a fire on site. We’re working with them and will be investigating the incident in the coming days.”

The cooperative acknowledged that a firefighter may have been injured during the response.
