Emergency personnel were called to the MGP Ingredients plant in Atchison, KS last Friday night after an explosion and a fire were reported at the facility, accounts by local news organizations said.

The blast occurred at about 8:15 p.m. and a fire ignited, generating a large volume of smoke, a local police official told the Atchison Globe. No workers were hurt.=

“An explosion and fire occurred Friday evening in the operations facility at MGP Ingredients Inc. in Atchison. There were no injuries. We are assessing the damage this morning and trying to determine the cause of the fire, which is unknown at this time,” the company said in a statement to television news station KCTV.

Crews were working the scene until about 9 p.m., according to coverage by MSC News.

MGP Ingredients manufactures distilled beverage spirits and food ingredients, including wheat starches and proteins.
