Person Injured in Minnesota Grain Elevator Explosion

Farmer’s Co-op of Hanska’s is working to assess damages after the explosion at its Burdick Elevator in New Ulm.

Firefighters were called to the Farmer’s Co-op of Hanska’s Burdick Elevator in New Ulm, MN Tuesday evening after an explosion occurred at the facility, the New Ulm Fire Department said in a release.

Crews were dispatched to the North Water Street site around 6:40 p.m. and discovered that one person was injured during the explosion, the fire department’s Facebook post said. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

New Ulm Fire Department and the Minnesota State Fire Marshall’s Office have initiated an investigation into the blast. The scene was cleared after about four hours.

The company is currently working to assess damages, the fire department’s release stated.

Television news station KEYC reported that the structure received damages during the explosion.
