Nestle Recalls Infant Formula After Plastic Found in Product

Food manufacturer Nestle UK issued a voluntary recall for SMA Wysoy Infant Formula after blue plastic pieces were found in some cans of the product, the company announced in an alert posted Friday to the website of the UK government’s Food Standards Agency. On Tuesday, the company announced that the recall is expanding to cover more batches of the product.

The initial recall involved three batch codes of 800g cans with best before dates in September 2022. Nestle UK listed five additional batches of 800g cans for recall this week bearing best before dates ranging from August 2021 to September 2022.

Plastic in the products presents a choking hazard for babies, rendering the product unsafe.

“We have continued to thoroughly investigate the root cause, and there is now reason to believe that some additional batches might also be affected,” Nestle UK wrote in a release. “Since the safety of our consumers is our key priority, we have taken the precautionary approach and have decided to recall these further batches of SMA Wysoy.”

Nestle UK said that point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that offer SMA Wysoy Infant Formula that provide information on why the recall is being carried out and how to dispose of recalled products.
