The Coca-Cola Co. announced Thursday that it is laying off 2,200 workers--nearly 17% of its global workforce, as part of a larger restructuring.

Almost half of the layoffs are to occur in the US, where Coke has more than 10,400 employees. Coke employed 86,200 people worldwide at the end of 2019.

The Atlanta-based company's business has taken a major hit due to COVID-19.
