Baghouse Fire Disrupts Operations at Soy Processing Plant

Fire crews were sent to the Louis Dreyfus Co. (LDC) integrated soy processing and biodiesel plant in Claypool, IN Tuesday evening after smoke was found in a baghouse at the site, several reports said.

The blaze was doused by 9:15 p.m. with no injuries, a company statement sent to Reuters detailed. Deliveries of soybeans to the site were halted the following day.

Claypool Fire Dept. Chief Rick Hurley said in an interview with local online news publication InkFreeNews.com that the cause of the fire in the five-story baghouse is unknown. No damage estimate was available.

LDC describes the Claypool site as the largest fully integrated soybean processing and biodiesel plant in the country. Construction on the site started in 2006 and its crush plant went into operation in 2007.
