Koch Ag & Energy Solutions subsidiary Koch Fertilizer recently revealed plans for a $140 million upgrade project at its Fort Dodge, IA production facility. During the effort, the company intends to revamp its production processes to boost its annual output of ammonia by 85,000 tn. A number of environmental and safety features will be added during the project as well.

“These investments reinforce our confidence in the future of the ammonia market and allow us to better serve our customers,” Scott McGinn, executive vice president, Koch Fertilizer said in a company release.

This new expansion follows on the heels of a $20 million project to replace a cryogenic storage tank at the site. Koch also recently doubled the Fort Dodge plant’s ammonia loading capacity with new loading racks and pumps and increased heating capacity on loading racks.

“In the last five years, we’ve made several investments to improve the customer experience and ensure the longevity of the Fort Dodge plant,” Shawn Campbell, Fort Dodge plant manager, said in a statement. “Modification to our ammonia heating and pumping capability was a key improvement. Not only can we load trucks faster, but the loading rates are no longer impacted by plant operating rates.”

Earlier this month, Powder & Bulk Solids reported that Koch Fertilizer is launching a $90 million upgrade project at its nitrogen plant in Beatrice, NE. The added capabilities will help the company to increase production of UAN and improve the site’s environmental and safety features.
