Continuous Personal Dust Monitor Classes Offered

The Mine Safety and Health Administration is offering instruction and certification exams across the country for operators of Continuous Personal Dust Monitor (CPDM) equipment.

The classes are being offered to help mine operators meet the requirements of MHSA rules designed to protect mine workers from black lung disease. Mine operators have to use CPDM for employees by Feb. 1, 2016.

The eight-hour classes are being offered in districts across the country.

Mine employees who sample, maintain, or calibrate CPDM equipment must complete the coursework, take the exam, and be issued certification by the MHSA. CPDM equipment samples for respirable coal mine dust in underground areas of mines, as well as other areas.

The Mine Safety and Health Administration website contains more information about the exams, including slide presentations for the CPDM equipment and sample test questions.
