HAZMAT Situation Reported at Henkel Manufacturing Plant

Officials said a chemical spill occurred as a production process was underway at the LaGrange, GA plant.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to at the Henkel production facility in LaGrange, GA Tuesday morning after a HAZMAT situation was called in, according to a report in the LaGrange Daily News.

Sent to the Executive Drive plant at about 9:30 a.m., firefighters arrived on scene and worked to ventilate the building, the newspaper’s coverage said. Henkel staff and workers at several neighboring businesses evacuated during the incident.

“We advise all citizens to avoid this area until we have cleared the scene,” the LaGrange Fire Department said in a Facebook post.  

LaGrange Fire Chief John Brant told the Daily News that the chemical spill happened after a chemical reaction occurred during a production process for glue or caulk.

No one was hurt. Crews cleared the scene around 1 p.m.

Henkel’s location in LaGrange specializes in caulking and sealant products, according to information on the LaGrange Economic Development website.
