Specialty chemicals firm Evonik announced Tuesday that it has added capacity for several types of coating additives at its manufacturing site in Shanghai, China to cut lead times in the region and strengthen its global supply chain.

The plant now has the capabilities to produce TEGO brand Glide and Wet product lines. Evonik previously only manufactured the additives at a facility in Germany. TEGO Wet substrate wetting additives are used for uniform wetting in printing inks and coatings. The Glide products are slip and flow additives to help the flow, leveling, and appearance of coatings.

“This means higher supply security for all our customers worldwide, as well as reduced lead times for our Asian customers,” Gaetano Blanda, head of the business line for Evonik, said in a company release. “Furthermore, the capacity increase allows for quicker reaction to changing market demands.”

Additives made at the Shanghai location are produced to the same standards as its manufacturing operation in Germany.

Evonik said it is considering adding production capabilities for other varieties of additives to the Shanghai plant in the future.
