Colonial Chemical Launching $13.8M Plant Expansion Project

Surfactants and additives manufacturer Colonial Chemical will expand its New Hope, TN production site during a $13.8 million project, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and the company announced in a release Monday.

The specialty chemical firm will renovate an existing 25,000-sq-ft warehouse at the site and build a new R&D laboratory, tank farm, and stand-alone employee facility.

“This is a busy time at Colonial Chemical. In the past year, we have upgraded significant systems in our plant, added additional reactor equipment, and moved our administrative offices into a new building. We have outgrown our existing warehouses for storage, and we’ve needed additional loading bays for the increased traffic that’s pouring into our plant,” said David Anderson Jr., president of Colonial Chemical, in a statement. “The additional space will help meet our needs for the immediate future.”

Work on the New Hope facility is expected to wrap up in 2025. 44 new jobs will be created over the next five years.

“Colonial Chemical opened their plant here in Marion County in the 90s with six employees and today they are close to 150 employees. We are very excited that their growth has continued through the years and that they are able to do another expansion at their New Hope plant,” Marion County Mayor David Jackson said in the release.

The company produces surfactants for personal care products, household cleaners, and other industrial uses.
