German chemicals and materials firm BASF revealed plans to add new capacity for specialty amines at its Geismar, LA location, including its key polyetheramines and tertiary amines that are sold under the Baxxodur and Lupragen brands.
“This investment underlines our commitment to continuously support the growth of our customers with high-quality specialty amines,” Kevin Anderson, vice president, Business Management Amines, Acetylenics, and Carbonyl Derivatives, Chemical Intermediates for BASF in North America, said in a company release Wednesday. “The additional capacity in Geismar will allow us to respond quickly and reliably to increasing market demand.”
Baxxodur products are used as curing agents and chain extenders in epoxy and polyurea applications in the wind, electrical, composites, adhesives, and flooring industries. The firm’s Lupragen amine catalyst products are used in the polyurethane forming process.
The asset is expected to become operational by mid-2023. BASF manufactures around 300 different amines at its Verbund sites in Ludwigshafen, Germany and Nanjing, China.
Also this month, Powder & Bulk Solids reported that BASF is investing in a new battery recycling black mass plant in Schwarzheide, Germany.
