The workers were reportedly burned by chemicals as they were carrying out normal work duties at the plant.

A blaze ignited Wednesday morning at the DAK Americas resin and fiber manufacturing facility in Moncks Corner, SC, prompting a response from a number of area fire departments and EMS and law enforcement personnel, local news organizations reported. Two people were injured during the incident.

Crews were dispatched to the Cypress Gardens Road site at 9:20 a.m. after officials received word of a possible explosion at the facility, ABC News affiliate WCIV said. The incident was later determined to be a structure fire.

Two workers were burned by chemicals while carrying out routine work duties, officials told television news station WCBD. They were transported area hospitals for treatment.

The Berkeley Observer noted the material involved in the incident was a polymer.

DAK America’s plant in Moncks Corner manufactures polyester staple fiber and PET resin, according to information on its website.

The company announced plans in May to cut 200 jobs as it shuts down polyester stable fiber manufacturing operations at the location, according to a report earlier this month by WCSC.
