Saint-Gobain building products subsidiary CertainTeed is preparing to start a $118 million expansion project at its Oxford, NC roofing shingle production facility, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced Wednesday. 225,000 sq ft of manufacturing space will be added to the location’s existing footprint to enable the company to meet high demand.

“This historic investment, made possible with the support from the State of North Carolina, will create new jobs and allow our company to support our customers with more of the industry-leading roofing materials that our team has been making in Granville County since 1978,” Mark Rayfield, president and CEO of Saint-Gobain North America and CertainTeed, said in a statement. “We thank the community for their continued support, and we look forward to many mor years of state-of-the-art manufacturing in Oxford.”

37 new jobs will be created through the expansion. The new roles will have an average annual wage of $66,930. A performance-based grant of $125,000 was awarded by the One North Carolina Fund to support the project.

CertainTeed manufactures a variety of exterior and interior building products, including roofing materials, trim, decking, insulation, gypsum wallboard, and ceilings.

Saint-Gobain revealed plans to invest $32 million to upgrade equipment at its CertainTeed insulation plant in Chowchilla, CA in February, Powder & Bulk Solids reported. The effort is expected to boost the location’s capacity by 13%.
