Chilworth Technology Inc., a DEKRA company, recently held several process safety training workshops in Shanghai, China on the business and operational advantages of effective Process Safety Management (PSM) practices in the process manufacturing industries. Chilworth will be offering its PSM and other process safety training courses in additional cities in China in 2013.

Titled “Process Safety Management for Employee Safety, Reliable Operations and Business Advantage,” the multi-day training workshops were attended by dozens of people stemming from management, operations, and maintenance in the chemical and processing industries in China. Industries represented included agrochemicals, chemicals /fine chemicals, food processing, metals, oil/gas, pharmaceuticals, plastics, and others.

“Given the continued rapid growth of process industries throughout China, we believe it is very important to share our knowledge of best practices in the area of PSM in these industries,” said Vahid Ebadat, CEO of Chilworth North America. “Chilworth’s process safety management consulting, testing, and training services are designed to meet the needs of multinational and other companies that require integrated, consistent information and services tailored to local operational and regulatory requirements and cultures.”

The training workshops discussed process safety management systems and best practices and how to best apply PSM in a continuous improvement framework and within existing safety management systems. Topics covered included: measuring the effectiveness of a PSM program; the importance of commitment by management to PSM program success; understanding process hazards and process risks; why the most effective PSM goes beyond compliance requirements; and the benefits of an improved PSM system including personnel safety, improved operability, and environmental, regulatory, and other benefits.
