One worker was killed and another injured after sinking into a pile of 400 tonnes of wheat when a grain storage silo at a flour mill collapsed on Monday night in Alindra in Savli taluka of Vadodara, India.

The two were working in the The incident occurred in Poonam Roller Flour Mills late Monday night when the silo collapsed. As soon as the silo collapsed, their coworkers informed emergency services and three hydraulic excavators came out to clear the pile of grain.

The 32-year-old injured worker, who was also trapped, was rescued and then rushed to the hospital for treatment.

“The company worked for processing wheat into refined flour and the work was on in the unit when the accident occurred. Both were trapped under a pile of 400 tonnes of wheat. We have registered a case and initiated a probe to ascertain the cause of the accident,” said Inspector VM Tank from Manjusar police station, who had rushed to the scene.

According to the police, both the workers were working next next to the silo in which tonnes of grains were stored. Police filed an accidental death case and are investigating.
