A leader in powder processing solutions with more than 100 years of experience in the powdered metal industry, GEMCO has joined the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and its Metal Additive Manufacturing Powder Consortium.

Additive manufacturing (AM) is transforming the manufacturing industry with its countless applications and an ever-expanding variety of materials from which to build. The establishment of the NIST Metal Additive Manufacturing Powder Consortium is an initiative that aims to establish standardized protocols for AM powders, ensuring their quality and consistency across different applications and industries.

"We are honored to be part of the Metal Additive Manufacturing Powder Consortium,” said Casey Bickhardt, president/CEO/owner of GEMCO. “This is a great opportunity for us to leverage our expertise and contribute to the development of industry standards for additive materials. We look forward to collaborating with NIST and other members of the consortium to help develop industry standards.”

By joining this consortium, GEMCO will play a vital role in advancing the additive materials industry and promoting its wider adoption among manufacturers. GEMCO’s expertise in metal powder blending and reclamation and its experience in gas purging and coating—two unique aspects of AM powders—will be pivotal for the NIST Consortium.

GEMCO will share its knowledge and experience with other members of the consortium, helping to develop best practices and guidelines for these processes, which will improve the performance and reliability of additive materials.
