FDA Food/Beverage, Pet, & Drug Recall Update: December 2023

Here are the food & beverage, pet product, and drug/medical device recalls by the US Food and Drug Administration for December.

FDA Recalls for December 2023

There were 36 total recalls by the US Food and Drug Administration in the month of December. Of that total, 26 were in food and beverage, 8 were in drugs/medical devices, 1 was in tobacco, and 1 was in pet products. That’s flat with November, which had 37.

Food & Beverage

In this sector, 15 food and beverage products were recalled due to undeclared allergens.

  • Lara’s Bakery 3 Pan de Racho, Panque, Tres Leches, Chocoflan, and Pan Surtido ‒ undeclared sesame seed, coconut, soy, wheat, milk, and egg

  • Maggi 2 Minute Noodles ‒ undeclared peanuts

  • Manischewitz Dark Chocolate Coins ‒ undeclared milk

  • United Dairy Farmers Holiday Nog ‒ undeclared egg

  • Shakespeare’s Frozen Pizza ‒ undeclared wheat

  • Aviator dehydrated tomate halves ‒ undeclared sulfites

  • Bobo’s Peach Oat Bars ‒ undeclared coconut

  • Himalayan Tea ‒ undeclared drugs, Diclofenac and Dexamethasone

  • Valley View Candies Peanut Butter, Maple Nut, Chocolate, and Chocolate Walnut Fudge ‒ undeclared eggs

  • Citi Trade Int’l Ltd. Notoginseng Formula Special Gout Granule ‒ undeclared drugs, Diclofenac and Dexamethasone

  • Eban’s Bakehouse Cookie Bites ‒ undeclared milk and soy

  • Racine Danish Kringles ‒ undeclared pecans

  • 365 Whole Foods Mart Beer Battered Pollock and Cod Fillets ‒ undeclared soy

  • World Varity Produce Inc. Melissa’s Hot Kimchi ‒ undeclared fish

  • Chocew Burnt Caramel Candy Bars – undeclared coconut

There were 6 products recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination.

  • Cut Fruit Express Caribou Coffee Fruit Mix and Cut Fruit Express Brand Fruit Mix containing cantaloupe chunks and fruit mixes containing cantaloupe

  • Malichita Whole Cantaloupe

  • TGD Cuts Not Branded Fruit cups, clamshells and trays containing cantaloupe

  • Sprout’s Farmers Market, Trader Joes, None Fruit cups and trays containing cantaloupe

  • Quaker Granola Bars and Granola Cereals

  • Wine Country Gift Baskets gift baskets with Quaker Chewy Granola Bars

4 food products were recalled due to the possibility of Listeria contamination.

  • Fresh Express and Publix Spinach

  • Nature’s Wonder Mung Bean Sprouts

  • Herold’s Salad Inc. Various Deli Salads

  • Sam Sung Soybean Sprouts

One product was recalled due to the potential Cronobacter sakazakii contamination.

  • Enfamil Nutramigen Powder infant formula in 12.6 and 19.8oz cans

Pet Products

One product was recalled due to the possibilities of both Salmonella and Listeria contamination.

  • Blue Ridge Beef Kitten Grind, Kitten Mix, and Puppy Mix

Drugs & Medical Devices

There were 8 recalls in the drug/medical device category.

  • Covidien and Cardinal Health Urology and OR room specific kits and trays – potential lack of sterility assurance which could result in non-sterile product

  • InvaGen Pharmaceuticals Vigabatrin for Oral Solution, USP 500mg – seal integrity issues allowing for powder leakage from the pouch.

  • Busse Hospital Disposals Medical Device Kits and Trays –potential lack of sterility

  • Medline Tracheostomy Care and Cleaning Trays – potential component defect

  • Resmed Masks with Magnets – Potential for magnetic interference near certain implants and medical devices

  • Americaine Benzocaine Topical Anesthetic Spray – presence of benzene

  •  Hospira Inc. Bleomycin for injection, USP 15 units single dose ONCO-TAIN Glass Fliptop Bottle – presence of glass particulate matter

  • Hospira Inc. 4.2% Sodium bicarbonate injection, 8.4% Sodium bicarbonate injection, Atropine sulfate injection – presence of glass particulate matter

Tobacco

One product was recalled in the tobacco category due to the potential of containing foreign metal objects.

  • Kodiak Smokeless Tobacco
