March 2023 results for the new planned capital project spending for the food and beverage industry was reported by IMI SalesLeads.

The firm tracks North American planned industrial capital project activity including facility expansions, new plant construction, and significant equipment modernization projects.

Research reveals there are 67 new projects in March as compared to 62 in February in the food and beverage sector.

Largest Planned Project

In March, the research team identified five new food and beverage facility construction projects with an estimated value of a minimum of $100 million.

The largest project is by McCain Foods, who is planning to invest $600 million for the expansion and equipment upgrades on their processing facility in Coaldale, AB. THe company recently received approval for the project, and completion is expected in late 2023.

 

Top 10 Tracked Food and Beverage Projects

MINNESOTA: Beverage company SunOpta, who makes tea, is planning to invest $125 million for the construction of a 425,000-sq-ft processing facility in Elko New Market. It is currently seeking approval for the project.

INDIANA: Beer distributor Monarch Beverage is planning to invest $73 million for the construction of a 450,000-sq-ft distribution facility at 6900 English Ave. in Indianapolis, IN. They have recently received approval for the project. They will relocate operations upon completion in late 2024.

ARKANSAS:  Meat processor Tyson Foods is planning to invest $70 million for the construction of a 131,000-sq-ft hatchery facility in Hope. Completion is slated for late 2024. The company also closed its  processing facility in Van Buren (and one in Virginia), with all operations ceasing in May 2023.

ILLINOIS: Oregon-based dairy cooperative, Tillamook County Creamery Association, is planning to invest $50 million for the renovation and equipment upgrades on a processing facility in Decatur. The company is currently seeking approval for the project.

IDAHO: Meat processing company Intermountain Packing is planning for the construction of a beef/bison processing facility in Idaho Falls. It is currently seeking approval for the project.

PENNSYLVANIA: Global food giant Cargill is planning for the expansion of its processing facility in Lititz by 207,000 sq ft. It's currently seeking approval for the project. Construction is expected to start this summer, with completion expected in summer 2024.

VIRGINIA: Feed More food bank is planning for the construction of a 124,000 sf warehouse, processing, and office facility in Henrico. The company is currently seeking approval for the project. Construction is expected to start in late 2023, with completion in late 2024.

CALIFORNIA: A produce company, proposed by Mike Smith Engineering Inc. of Lodi, is planning for the construction of a 97,000-sq-ft two-story agricultural processing facility in Lodi. It is currently seeking approval for the project.

MICHIGAN: Meat product manufacturer West Michigan Beef Co. is planning for the expansion of its processing facility in Hudsonville by 88,000 sq ft. The company is currently seeking approval for the project.

ILLINOIS: Frozen pizza maker Roncadin is planning on renovating and upgrading equipment at a recently acquired 68,300-sq-ft processing facility in Vernon Hills. The company is currently seeking approval for the project.
