In April 2024 there were 66 new projects planned for the North American food and beverage industry including facility expansions, new plant construction, significant equipment modernization projects, and plant closings, according to research firm SalesLeads. This is over March with 72, yet both January and February had 66 planned projects as well.

Out of the new projects, 41 were processing facilities, and 26 were distribution centers and warehouses.

SalesLeads identified five new food and beverage facility construction projects in April with an estimated value of $100 million or more.

The largest project is by Daisy Brand, with an investment of $708 million for construction of a 750,000-sq.-ft processing and warehouse facility in Boone, IA. Approval is being sought for the project.

Top 10 Tracked Food and Beverage Projects

SOUTH DAKOTA

Startup dairy company, Kingsbury County Dairy, is planning to invest $191 million for the construction of a processing facility in Kingsbury County. The company has recently received approval for the project.

MICHIGAN

Nutritional product manufacturer Amway is planning to invest $128 million for the expansion, renovations, and equipment upgrades on two processing, laboratory, office, and storage facilities in Ada. They are currently seeking approval for the project.

ONTARIO

Hershey Canada is planning for the renovation and equipment upgrades on a recently reacquired 700,000-sq.-ft processing, warehouse, and office facility in Smiths Falls. It is currently seeking approval for the project.

VIRGINIA

Dairy processor HP Hood is planning to invest $84 million in the expansion and equipment upgrades of their processing facility in Winchester. The company has recently received approval for the project.

OHIO

International Food Solutions, a food processing company, is planning to invest $65 million for a 120,000-sq.-ft expansion, renovations, and equipment upgrades on a processing facility in Cleveland. The company is currently seeking approval for the project. Construction is expected to start in summer 2024.

MAINE

Startup snack food manufacturer Taste of Maine Potato Chip Co. is planning to invest $55 million for the construction of an 80,000-sq.-ft processing facility in Limestone. The company recently received approval for the project. Construction is expected to start in summer 2024, with completion slated for late fall 2025.

WISCONSIN

Saputo Cheese USA Inc. is planning for the renovation and equipment upgrades on a 310,500-sq.-ft warehouse facility in Caledonia. The cheese manufacturer is currently seeking approval for the project.

CALIFORNIA

A frozen foods manufacturer has recently agreed to pre-lease 204,000 sq. ft of cold storage warehouse space in Tulare. They will relocate a portion of their operations from Nevada upon completion in fall 2024.

OHIO

Kalmbach Feeds, an animal feed manufacturer, is planning to invest $12 million for the construction of a 100,000-sq.-ft warehouse facility in Crawford Township. The feed company has recently received approval for the project.

RHODE ISLAND

Food service distributor Imondi Foods is planning for the renovation and equipment upgrades on a recently leased 84,000-sq.-ft processing facility in Lincoln. The distributor will relocate operations upon completion.
