Endress+Hauser Invests in $1M High Pressure Test Rig

Endress+Hauser installed a $1 million high pressure test rig at its Greenwood, IN headquarters, allowing the company to test complete instrument assemblies to customer specifications, the company announced Tuesday. The system also provides E+H with the capability to provide a 100% test on instruments to determine whether the equipment can withstand the design process pressure of up to 15,000 psi.

“With the new high pressure test rig located in the Greenwood, IN, production center, instruments can be tested and certified quickly, for faster delivery to customers in the U.S. and the Americas,” E+H said in a press release. “And because the test facility is in the U.S., it makes it easier for customers to schedule and witness the test.”

To perform similar tests in the past, the company had to conduct testing at its production plant in Maulburg, Germany.

The company said that customers in the oil and gas, chemical, power, and other heavy industries will benefit from its new ability to certify entire instrument assemblies.

Generating pressure up to 15,000 psi (1000 bar) to test devices up to 16 feet (4 meters) long and with up to a 2-inch diameter, the test rig was installed in an underground concrete pit to ensure safety. While an array of products can be tested in the rig, the company said it was specially designed to test Endress+Hauser’s Levelflex guided wave radar level instruments, capacitance probes, Liquiphant tuning forks, Micropilot free space radar level instruments, and high pressure thermowell assemblies.

“The test rig can produce relevant certification and documentation to ensure there is a level of safety built into the system and reduce risk of failure. This certification and documentation is also often required by engineering firms, end users or insurance companies,” E+H said.
