An explosion at a ArcelorMittal coke plant in Ghent, Belgium Monday afternoon killed one person and injured two others.

The blast occurred at 3:10 p.m. local time in the by-products area of the coke plant, the company said in a statement. ArcelorMittal expressed its condolences to the work’s family, friends and coworkers and said the surrounding area and the facility is presently considered safe.

Local English-language newspaper The Brussels Times reported that toxic fumes were reported after the explosion.

“The coke plant gas is currently being flared in accordance with the stated procedures in these circumstances, creating visible flames above the coke plant that do not pose a danger,” the firm’s release stated.

ArcelorMittal said it is investigating the incident.
