Railinc Names Robert Simora Chief Information Officer

Railinc Corp. has announced that Robert Simora was promoted to chief information officer (CIO). In his new role, Simora will be responsible for providing the vision and leadership for Railinc’s data, product development, and information systems platforms. He will also lead activities around company strategy and innovation. He will continue to report to Allen West, president and CEO. Railinc is the freight rail industry's leading resource for rail data, IT, and information services.

“Rob has transformed Railinc’s product development process and consistently demonstrated the type of executive leadership required to advance our IT processes and infrastructure to the next level,” West said. “His expertise has helped us create more customer-driven products and applications while lowering Railinc’s cost of operations. That’s a benefit to all our freight rail industry partners.”

Simora joined Railinc in 2007 as assistant vice president, product development, with responsibility for the strategic technical direction and delivery of all Railinc information technology products. During his tenure, Simora has transformed Railinc product development to an Agile development methodology, resulting in improved product delivery times, reduced development costs, and greater customer satisfaction.

Prior to joining Railinc, Simora was director of IT for Tekelec, a telecommunications company based in Morrisville, NC. He served as an IT manager for General Electric in both domestic and international roles. 

Simora earned a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University. He is a candidate in the Executive MBA program at the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Simora has earned his Six Sigma Black Belt certification and completed General Electric’s Information Management Leadership Program. He is a member of the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA), the Triangle Technology Executives Council (TTEC), and the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA).
